FAQs

How many transfer students attend Jefferson?

20% of our student body is comprised of transfer students from across the country and around the world.

How do you determine transferrable credit?

Transfer credit is evaluated by the Office of Admissions in conjunction with academic Program Directors.  Courses with a grade of C or higher will be reviewed for consideration.  Additionally, the course must be equivalent in content and learning outcomes to courses offered in a student’s Jefferson curriculum.  Any courses that have been completed over 10 years ago will be evaluated by Program Directors.  Major courses that are 10 years old will likely not transfer.  Transfer of design coursework is subject to a portfolio review with faculty.  Transfer courses evaluated for credit from institutions with different credit systems, (i.e. quarters, trimesters, credit units) will, wherever possible, be equated with the University’s semester system of credit.  We do not have cap on transferrable credits; however, 60 credits must be completed at the university to earn your Jefferson degree.  12 of these credits must be applied towards major requirements and 9 must be applied towards general education requirements.  For additional academic policies and procedures, please refer to our University catalog.

How long will it take me to complete my degree?

Courses are highly sequential in a number of academic programs. Therefore, some students (especially design) may take up to four years (five years for B. Arch and BLA) to complete a sequence. Please speak with a transfer counselor about the length of your program. A minimum of 60 credits must be completed at Jefferson to complete your degree.

Are transfer scholarships available?

Yes!  We offer merit-based scholarships ranging from $6,000 - $13,000 per year.

We also offer scholarships for members of Phi Theta Kappa.

What are your admissions deadlines?

If you are applying for the spring term, we ask that you complete your application by December 1st. If you are applying for the fall term, the application deadline is June 1st *.

*Applications received after the regular decision deadlines will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

How many credits do I need to apply as a transfer student?

There is no minimum number of credits needed to apply as a transfer student. If you have less than 30 college credits, we will require your high school transcript and SAT/ACT test scores to use for an admissions decision.
