M.S. in Midwifery Curriculum

The M.S. in Midwifery program is available as a part or full-time program, starting during the spring or fall semester. A full-time curriculum sequence is shown below. Though the order and workload may change depending on sequence chosen, all courses shown below reflect the requirements of the M.S. in Midwifery program, regardless of part or full-time commitment or the semester in which a student begins. The clinical portions of the program are full-time.

Year One

Semester I

  • Advanced Physiology/Pathophysiology for Primary Care (3 credits)
  • Professional Issues (3 credits)
  • Theoretical Foundations (3 credits)
  • Advanced Physical Assessment (3 credits)

Semester II

  • Healthcare of Women (4 credits)
  • Advanced Pharmacology I (2.5 credits)
  • Evidence-Based Care: Evaluating Research (3 credits)

On Campus Intensive: Office skills

Semester III

  • Embryology and Genetics (1 credit)
  • Preparation for Office Based Practice (1 credit)
  • Antepartum Care (4 credits)
  • Postpartum/Newborn Care (2.5 credits)
  • Clinical Well Woman and Maternity Care I (2 credits)
Year Two

Semester IV

  • Introduction to Health Policy (3 credits)
  • Intrapartum Care (4 credits)
  • Advanced Pharmacology II (1.5 credits)
  • Clinical Well Woman and Maternity Care II (3 credits)

On Campus Intensive: Birth skills

Semester V

  • Preparation for Full Scope Midwifery Practice (1 credit)
  • Clinical Full Scope Midwifery Care I (4 credits)
  • Advanced Perinatal Pathophysiology (4 credits)

Semester VI

  • Elective (3 credits)
  • Clinical Full Scope Midwifery Care II (5 credits)
  • Midwifery Nexus Project (1.5 credits)
