Industrial Design Students Partner with Philips to Improve Health Care Groups of industrial design students presented a range of projects to improve aspects of the health care industry as part of a design challenge presented by Philips Design in November. The innovative student projects included a self-check-in hospital system, themed dental products to encourage children to care for their teeth and a voice-acti- vated baby monitor. One student group, which included industrial designers Sam Ryan ‘12 and Chris Dougherty ‘12, focused their design on increasing emergency room efficiency by devel- oping a prototype to decrease the time it take to administer intravenous medicine by 40 percent. Their design (pictured above) is currently being patented by Philadelphia University. Industry Immersion
