Industrial Design Student’s Magnetic Light Switch Catches Attention of Investors Jake Frey’s magnetic light switch cover, with small, high-powered magnets attached to the back of it, drew an eager internet following and the attention of investors after be- ing featured on several design websites. After a viral internet campaign, Frey’s design, called “NeoCover,” is being manufactured in Philadelphia. The NeoCover lets people drop their keys when they turn on their lights, leaving their keys magnetically attached to the switch cover. The magnets can hold up to 27 keys and do not affect USB devices or the electric current behind the switch cover. While launching his own company and finishing his last semester at Philadelphia University, Frey prepared to work in Germany with acclaimed industrial designer Ingo Maurer after graduation. 57
