Jane Young Likens Scholarship

Jane Likens with StudentsJane Young Likens was an institution unto herself. Through her long and dedicated 20 years of service as an associate professor of fashion design, she deeply enriched the lives of her students and colleagues with her dynamic personality, creativity and love of learning.

From her service in first-year advising to mentoring the development of capstone concepts and final portfolios, Jane touched many lives. Those who knew her consider themselves among the fortunate to have experienced her unrelenting dedication to her students, supporting their growth both personally and professionally.

Former students continue to cherish Jane’s connection with them, which did not end at graduation. Their connection with her has transcended from student to colleague and ultimately to friend. That’s what so special about Jane—her ability to maintain relationships and find value in others while sharing her knowledge, experience and relentless energy.

Even though she retired in 2013, Jane’s presence is still felt on campus in the form of an endowed scholarship. Established in her name by former students and colleagues, the Jane Young Likens Scholarship supports aspiring young fashion designers in their junior and senior years. Recipients receive the award based on academic merit and financial needs.

Jane’s joy for teaching, her thoughtfulness and abundant enthusiasm, not to mention her infectious smile, embody the very best of Philadelphia University. She leaves a rich legacy behind in more ways than one, a source of inspiration for the PhilaU community.
