Prior to Graduation

Cap and Gown Pick-Up
Graduation attire must be picked up at Grad Finale on either Wednesday, April 11 or Thursday, April 12, 2018 between noon and 7 p.m. Jostens (the cap and gown supplier) will be able to fit you with your degree appropriate attire.

Commencement Rehearsal
THERE IS NO COMMENCEMENT REHEARSAL. Instructions will be given prior to the academic procession on the day of graduation.

Academic Attire
Your academic dress will depend on the degree you will be receiving. The academic regalia consists of cap, gown, hood and tassel. To participate in the Commencement ceremony, you must wear academic regalia.  

Arrival and Vesting of Graduates
Undergraduate students should arrive at 8:30 a.m., and graduate students should arrive no later than 1:00 p.m. for registration and vesting. Registration and vesting will be in the Robing area next to the Terrace Ballroom. University staff will be on hand to assist students with the proper fitting of the academic hood and other attire issues.

Diploma Distribution
Diplomas are NOT distributed at Commencement. Students will receive a letter from the President as they cross the stage. Diplomas will be mailed to the student’s permanent address on file with the University, 8 to 10 weeks after the ceremony, by the Registrar’s Office. Please be sure that the Registrar’s Office has your correct mailing address. Any questions please contact the registrar at

Honors - Undergraduate Degree Only

Undergraduate academic honors will be announced with students’ names as they cross the stage.

Cum Laude - Cumulative GPA of 3.6 - 3.69
Magna Cum Laude - Cumulative GPA of 3.7 - 3.79
Summa Cum Laude - Cumulative GPA of 3.8 or better 

Honors are based on the cumulative GPA from Fall of 2017 for undergraduate students completing their degree in May and August of 2018.  For students enrolled in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, Accelerated or PhilaU Online programs, honors will be based on the cumulative GPA from the end of the Spring 1 2018 term. Honors reflected on students’ transcripts and diplomas will be based on the actual cumulative GPA at the time of degree completion.
