Brandon Sargent ’07

As a child Brandon Sargent always enjoyed drawing buildings but he never considered it as a career path. During his senior year of high school, he had the opportunity to job shadow an architect and he knew that this was his profession.

Sargent graduated from Philadelphia University in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Architecture. He is currently a Project Architect at BBLM Architects, a medium-size Center City firm that focuses on healthcare and laboratory environments. In addition, he is a member of the American Institute of Architects and proudly holds a certificate from the National Council of Architecture Registration Boards. PhilaU's Architecture and the Built Environment program was a perfect fit for Brandon's career aspirations. The Architecture Program prepares students to be creative, independent thinkers and innovative problem solvers, combining professional skills with a broad general education. Sargent utilizes these skills in his everyday interactions with a wide variety of stakeholders. Being an architect, it is imperative that each person's concerns and goals are discussed, understood, and prioritized. At the end of each project, Sargent is always amazed that the current building, a few months before, was just lines on a page.

In his spare time, Sargent volunteers with the Young Architects' Forum and is this year's fundraising coordinator for the Philadelphia AIA's annual Halloween Spooktacular event. He loves cooking and spending time with his partner and their two dogs. They both are involved with their church; Brandon serves as the editor of their newsletter, allowing him to use his design skills, which normally don't get much use at work.

Brandon Sargent personal philosophy is to "never stop learning." He encourages all current PhilaU students and recent graduates to soak up everything you can to make yourself invaluable to your employer, it's the best form of job security.
